There have been rumors that Apple has been planning to discontinue the MacBook Air line for quite some time. With another rumor of a mysterious 13-inch retina MacBook coming, the speculations of MacBook Air being replaced may not be so farfetched after all.

New 13-inch Retina Display MacBook to Replace MacBook Air Line?

Ming Chi Kuo, a noted Apple insider who is known for his predictions regarding the company's products, says that a new MacBook with Retina display is coming. Kuo informed Apple Insider that the new laptop will be a 13-inch MacBook model with Retina display and that Apple will be releasing it in the third quarter of the year.

Even though Apple already has an existing 12-inch MacBook with Retina display, the company will go ahead with releasing the said 13-inch MacBook in accordance with their plans with the MacBook Air line. Instead of continuing the line, the 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Air laptops will be downgraded to entry level devices instead for cost-efficient buyers.

Apple More Focused on MacBook Pro Lineup

The tech giant may be downgrading the MacBook Air line so they can focus more on upgrading the MacBook Pro 2016 line. The 2016 MacBook Pro will reportedly come out slimmer with impressive features including a Thunderbolt 3 support, USB Type-C and a Touch ID feature, Christian Today noted.

Apple has not announced a definite date for the 2016 MacBook Pro but reports are saying that it may be released at the end of the year and mentioned at the company's September event. However, Yibada points out that the MacBook Pro 2016 may be released during the WWDC 2016 event next month. Unless Apple makes an official statement, the rumors on the MacBook laptops will remain as such.
