When you do emotional eating, your problems will not really disappear and it will surely be an added problem to your waist line. That is true when you binge on unhealthy food when you feel stressed out. And while stress is inevitable, there are still certain foods you can consume during the rough times without having to feel guilty and worried about the calories.

Salmon

According to research, the nutrients you can find in fish are known to make you feel more calm. The omega 3 fatty acids can reduce inflammation in the brain and can be helpful when it comes to reducing anxiety.

Yogurt

Research shows that fermented foods can be helpful in a person's mental wellness. Just make sure you choose the ones with lower salt profile. Yogurt is also a good source of calcium and protein which your body needs in order to release feel-good neurotransmitters.

Green vegetables

Studies suggest that people who are experiencing anxiety and depression can benefit from spinach and other greens because of their high levels of folate and vitamin b12.

Nuts and seeds

Nuts like pistachios, cashews, almonds, pumpkin seeds and walnuts are a great source of fiber and anti oxidants which can reduce blood pressure. One study has also shown how pistachios reduced anxiety levels of a person. Cashews and almonds on the other hand has been shown to improve a person's mood.

Wine

Alcohol is an effective central nervous system depressant so having a glass of wine can help reduce your blood pressure and ease off your tension.

Sweet potatoes

Sweet potatoes are not only sweet and delicious, they are also rich with nutrients and fiber that can help you boost mood and optimism. You will not even have to worry about the blood sugar spike.
