Samsung has taken the Android 7.0 Nougat Beta for a dry run in Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, as the update should be the last step before officially rolling out Google's latest Android OS in public. Meanwhile, reports are loud that Samsung Gear VR is not compatible with the beta program.

What Happen?

When it was announced that users of Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge can finally try Android 7.0 Nougat Beta, everyone seems happy to become part of Samsung's Galaxy Beta Program. Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge users from the U.S., the U.K. and South Korea as well as China were invited to take part of it.

The "lucky" ones who were selected by Samsung were able to get the beta firmware. Unfortunately, a number of participants were surprised when they cannot make the Gear VR work with Android 7 Nougat, according to vrheads.

It turns out that the latest Android OS do not support Samsung's Gear VR system, wherein those who attempted to use the Oculus app with Nougat encountered a "network error." Basically, it halts the Gear VR's virtual environment setup.

Why Did The Gear VR Error Occur?

It seems that the Oculus app is only compatible with Android Marshmallow. An update may come out, but it will take time. It is possible that they will update it before the Android Nougat 7.0 is publicly released.

Those who participated in the Samsung Nougat beta program will have to leave if they want to retain the use of their Gear VR. After leaving, users need to downgrade to the latest and stable Android Marshmallow version. It's normal to encounter such errors in beta testing programs, which is probably why Samsung decided to test it out first.

Samsung Galaxy Android Nougat 7.0 Release Date

The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge with Nougat 7.0 beta testing is still ongoing. Samsung has not set a public release date for the latest Android OS, but it's expected to be anytime soon.
