Almost everything about the Huawei Mate 9 was leaked online, but Huawei managed to keep some surprises that were unwrapped during the event.

The biggest surprise of the event was the unveiling of the special limited edition Porshe Design Mate 9. The initial rumors that floated saying the Mate 9 will bring its big brother were squashed for the Porshe Design Mate 9 is actually smaller in screen size at 5.5-inches. Picking Germany to launch the Huawei Mate 9 was maybe not random, GSMArena reported.

Both Porsche and Leica are well known German brands. Porsche for its automobiles, Leica for photography. Though smaller in size than the Huawei Mate 9, the Porsche Design Mate 9 is not small on features. The curved 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display is sharper at 2560 x 1440, 534ppi resolution.

Like its bigger sibling, it features the Kirin 960 chipset though having bigger RAM at 6GB and an even bigger internal storage of 256GB. Unfortunately, you lose the microSD slot on this premium model.

The Porsche Design Mate 9's camera features Leica optics in its dual-lens camera. One is a 12MP RGB sensor and one 20MP monochrome sensor. The combined lens can do Hybrid Zoom, which is a 2x zoom that combines the information from both sensors.

The internal battery is 4,000 mAh and feature Huawei's Super Charge Technology that can get you enough juice for the day by charging the unit for only 20 minutes. A full charge of the phone is claimed to last for 2 days.

The Porche Design Mate 9 will be up for sale this year in European Porsche Design Stores for €1395 and will be available to other parts of Europe, the Middle East, and Asia in select Huawei retail stores beginning January next year, according to AndroidCentral.
