As the saying goes, college is the best four years of a person's life. But, it isn't true for all. Apparently, there is an increasing new trend for students - taking too long to graduate from college and spending more than four years to earn a degree.

Taking longer to graduate is very costly. It costs more for the tuition fees, room and board. And according to USA Today College, the college students at public universities finish college after six years, which is a downside not only on the costs, but also on many other things. While there are many reasons behind the delay in students getting their degrees, there are also ways for college students to be able to help themselves finish on time. This is most especially helpful for the current high school seniors who would like to help themselves graduate.

First, it is important to be at the top of the game when finishing the last semester of high school, according to The Tennessean. Why? Because it is a lot easier to feel great and feel confident to starting out the next chapter if a student is able to end high school on a high note.

Second, a student must try to apply for a job at his own college or university and it is also better to choose the opportunity related to the major or fields they are taking. This is important because it is one way to learn more about internships and other opportunities first-hand. It will also help a student get paid.

Third, volunteer. Volunteering for people or groups with the right causes and the causes that the students might find interesting will help them realize and discover their passion, as well as how they can actually make a difference in the lives of other people.

What does all of these boil down to? It only implies that the more involved a student is, more he or she is likely to finish college - on time.
