Every year, SpaceX opens its facilities to interns who are willing to learn the ropes around a huge tech company co-founded by Elon Musk.

SpaceX's aim is to create and develop technologies that would ultimately bring humans to Mars and make the place livable. In order to achieve this goal, SpaceX needs to hire and recruit talents that are capable of making this possible.

While employment is still a few months or years away for some college and university graduates, the next best thing is to apply as interns. Currently, SpaceX is hiring Facilities Interns for its Cape Canaveral site this Co-Op spring 2017.

The facilities interns are going to participate in all and major parts of components and systems maintenance. SpaceX needs capable individuals who can work in a fast-paced environment where launching happens a lot.

To be able to enroll as a facilities intern, students must be enrolled at a four year university or college engineering course (or any engineering technology field). Those who have completed their engineering degree in six months or less can also apply as an intern.

What is the role and requirements of a facilities intern?

The intern is involved in the Launch Facility itself. Specific processes include conducting corrective and preventative maintenance checks which also includes operational and design checks.

The company prefers an individual who has participated in a Junior or Senior capstone project. Additional military experience is also a plus. While most of the requirements stem from design and system analysis, SpaceX requires interns to have experience and knowledge with the use of hand and power tools, and equipment.

Facilities interns must be willing to work full time starting January or March 2017. The required time involved is 12 straight weeks with an additional overtime of fifty hours per week. Schedules depend on the type of job. A valid driver's license is also preferred.
