So much has been leaked about the Huawei Mate 9 that people knew almost everything there is to know about Huawei's new flagship smartphone. It is refreshing to note that Huawei managed to keep some things under wraps until the formal reveal was held in Munich, Germany.

The Huawei Mate 9's display features a 5.9-inch IPS LCD multitouch capacitive touchscreen with full HD resolution at 1920 x 1080 pixels with a density of 373 ppi, covered in 2.5D glass. The unit is 7.5mm thick and weighs in at 190 grams.

It carries Huawei's new Hisilicon Kirin 960 chipset boasting of an octa-core processor in two quartet configurations of the new 2.4GHz Cortex-A73 and 1.8GHz Cortex-A53. The phablet also features the latest ARM Mali-671 MP8 GPU and 4GB of onboard RAM.

If that is not impressive enough, Huawei Mate 9 is equipped with a well-known German brand, Leica, for its primary camera. The camera is a dual-lens setup, where one is a 12MP color sensor and one is a 20MP black and white sensor. The combined lens is capable of Hybrid 2x Zoom that combines information from both sensors when you take a photo.

Both lenses are equipped with optical image stabilization (OIS), that also boasts of an autofocus laser, phase, depth, and contrast detection and also equipped with a dual-LED (dual tone) flash. The front camera of the Huawei Mate 9 is an 8MP sensor with f/1.9 aperture that has an autofocus feature for those great selfie shots or video at 1080p, GSMArena reported.

The 64GB internal storage of the Huawei Mate 9 is expandable to 256GB via microSD. The unit features dual-SIM, LTE connectivity, and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. It touts a 4,000 mAh battery that features Huawei's Super Charge Technology. The feature will give you a full day's worth of power for a 20-minute charge. A full charge of the battery will reportedly give you 2 days worth of juice.

The Huawei Mate 9 comes with Android 7.0 Nougat enveloped with the latest EMUI 5.0. All this is encased in a metal body design that comes in black, ceramic white, space gray, champagne gold, mocha brown, and moonlight silver.

The SRP is €699 ($776) for Europe and will be released first in China, with the rest of Asia and Europe to follow. The unit was released alongside the Huawei Porsche Design Mate 9 with SRP of €1395 ($1,548).
