Trust Yahoo Now To Keep Your Accounts Secure; Yahoo-AOL Merger Under Oath To Beef Up Security [Video]

Yahoo merges with AOL under Oath to renew the trust of consumers following security breaches of the past. Verizon newly acquires Yahoo, merges it with AOL, and puts it under one umbrella company called Oath. AOL CEO Tim Armstrong is set to beef up security of Yahoo via an already greenlit investment.

Yahoo has fallen victim to substantial security hacks under its current CEO Marissa Mayer. Many users are now wary if the company can ensure the privacy of their accounts or can be trusted to hold sensitive data. This may all change after Verizon's $45 billion acquisition of Yahoo, which will be merged with its AOL operations.

AOL's Armstrong promised that the newly-acquired Yahoo can ride on AOL's deeper level of security, which is an investment that has already been approved, NPR reported. Yahoo and AOL operations will be under an umbrella company to be called Oath, which sparked a few jokes on social media. Some were just plain silliness with suggestions like Oaf and Oof while others are more attuned to the goings-on in the companies involved. For instance, the oath may mean what Yahoo's Mayer's reaction was to the acquisition.

However, Armstrong was quick to correct the misinterpretation that Yahoo and AOL will be rebranded. The two companies will keep their names and Oath will be more on behind-the-scenes like Alphabet is to Google. The likelihood of consumers hearing the brand Oath is slim for in its stead will be more promotions of Yahoo products and of course Verizon's, Business Insider reported.

Yahoo users may see more promotions of Yahoo, Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Sports, TechCrunch, Huffington Post, Engadget, and Tumblr. Moreover, Armstrong promised to enliven the Yahoo brand not just in beefing up security measures but also to add new life and content. As to the executive team of Oath and whether or not Mayer will still be onboard are still undetermined pending official announcements in June.
