As the rumor mill for the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus continues to surface online, an official promo of the South Korea tech giant's upcoming Exynos 8995 mobile chipset was revealed on Twitter, which confirms the presence of the dual-camera module on the upcoming flagship.
The teaser for the latest Samsung Exynos 8995 SoC was unveiled on the "Samsung Exynos" Twitter handle, published on March 6. The post referred to the latest camera module as a new way to "take great pictures, while further displaying the rear-facing dual camera setup on the company's future flagship.
According to Phone Arena, the Exynos 8995 chipset includes support for Dual ISP (Image Signal Processing) which is used on smartphone cameras to handle multiple tasks related to colors, Autofocus, Auto exposure, HDR, noise reduction and more.
Following the report, the teaser does not further reveal the specific camera megapixels included in the dual-camera setup. However, previous rumors suggest that the Exynos 8995 chipset could support camera sensors for up to 28-megapixel and 16-megapixel dual camera setup.
GizBot furthered that the mobile chipset's specs sheet reveal support for 4K display, UFS 2.1 storage, and up to 6GB RAM.
Samsung has officially announced more details on the Exynos 8895. The said SoC is made using the 10-nanometer (nm) FinFET process technology with an improved 3D transistor structure, which allows up to 27 percent higher performance while consuming 40 percent less power when compared to 14nm technology.
In addition, the Exynos 8995 chipset is equipped with four Exynos M2 cores and matched with four Cortex A53 cores. Also, the chipset will enable the Samsung Coherent Interconnect (SCI) technology that aids with artificial intelligence. According to reports, the Exynos 8995 chipset brings better battery life compared to the previous Exynos 8890 generation used in the Galaxy S7.
On the upcoming Exynos 8895, Samsung will arm a Mali G71 GPU for improved performance compared to the Mali T880MP12 @ 650MHz used in Exynos 8890. The new GPU should also bring better VR experience and 4K UHD at 120fps video recording and playback through Multi-format codec (MFC).
The Exynos 9 Series 8895 is currently in mass production, but customers should not expect the said SoC to be armed in the upcoming Galaxy S8 release. The Galaxy Note 8 could probably be the nearest candidate for the said feature in order to distinguish it from the S8 models. According to rumors, the U.S. and China variants of the Galaxy S8 might use the Snapdragon 835 SoC, whereas the other regions might include the Exynos 8895 SoC.
