GoPro Karma Drone is now back on sale, three months after it was recalled due to a battery connection problem. But the future of the comeback drone looks bleak going against the smaller, feature-rich and similarly-priced DJI Mavic Pro drone.

GoPro in a press release announced that it will start selling the Karma drone. The drone's flawed design was corrected and underwent rigorous testing before it hits the market.

The Karma is now listed in the GoPro.com and carried by a select number of U.S.retailers like Best Buy, B&H, and Amazon. The foldable drone that fits a backpack retails at $799 with no camera and $1,099 with a GoPro Hero5 Black bundle.

There is also a $599 without the stabilizer. However, shipments are in limited supply only and will not be open outside the country until late this spring.

The droned dubbed as the "Hollywood in a Backpack" back in September garnered the interest of the consumer camera drone market. GoPro had a worldwide user base with its array of action cameras matched with effective marketing.

Armed with an image stabilizing grip, the Karma was known to be capable of taking professional photos and videos. However, GoPro had to recall all 2,500 units it sold a few weeks after it launched the drone.

The recall started with a few reported cases of the drone losing power in mid-air. GoPro eventually discovered a design flaw with an unsecured latch that loosens the battery pack, leading the drone to literally fall from the sky according to Pocket-lint.

GoPro took a bold move of recalling all units without any legal requirement. Analysts say it was good PR move that shows the company's good faith. However, this may not be enough to renew interest on the Karma as it returns to the market

The consumer camera drone market has already been filled by the smaller and similarly-priced DJI Mavic Pro with more features compared to GoPro's flagship drone. The Chinese drones have features like obstacle avoidance and follow me that the Karma cannot equal.

Drone analyst Colin Snow said that the GoPro Karma drone is a "2015 drone in 2017" since the Karma was originally set for a 2015 release but was delayed for a year. Snow reveals that it is overpriced, too big even if it is folded and has fewer features, Fast Company reported.
