GoPro recalls the Karma drone after barely a month from launching and now the company offers the Karma Grip as a standalone product retailing at $299.99 dollars. However, observers say that GoPro may want to recoup its losses by reintroducing for the holidays a much improved Karma drone minus the power loss issues, but some drone buyers are wary because of the potential danger that crashing drones may bring.

The Karma drone was launched along with the flagship camera, the GoPro Hero5 Black, in October 2016. The drone was supposedly GoPro's attempt to copy and rival DJI's Osmo especially with its quadcopters. However, after barely a month, GoPro is now recalling all 2,500 Karma drone units it sold due to the reported power loss issues in mid-flight.

Last month, GoPro announced the Karma drone recall, fully refunding the buyers and even throwing in a GoPro Hero5 camera into the bargain for US consumers only, Slash Gear reported. Though the company only cited a few reports, GoPro is not taking chances since the Karma drone can easily crash if it experiences power loss in mid-air, potentially endangering people and property on the ground.

As of present, in a bid to recoup its losses, GoPro is selling the Karma Grip, retail price starts at $299.99 dollars and the cost could go higher depending on the camera used, The Verge reported. It should be noted that the "no shake" Karma drone was well-received and praised by drone fans and its perfect stabilization was provided by the Karma Grip.

GoPro may be hoping that the Karma grip sale will somehow boost the company's reputation even amidst surmounting financial losses that began even before the Karma drone recall. However, the Karma grip comes in a hefty price and consumers may need to add $400 dollars more for a GoPro camera to go with the Karma Grip.

Nonetheless, the Karma Grip provides an enhance functionality, which observers say has a steady market among GoPro Hero5 Black camera owners. Meanwhile, rumors are circulating that GoPro may be reintroducing the Karma drone in time for the holidays when people are more inclined to spend.

Drone buyers are wary given the short time to fix the power loss issues. It may be too soon and risky for GoPro to put the Karma drone back in the market especially with the company also having labor problems. Besides, there is intense competition in the drone market and the Karma drone's past reputation do not bode well for GoPro particularly in terms of sale.
