Android 7.0 Nougat is coming to the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet K1. The news comes as NVIDIA prepares to introduce the software update to the SHIELD Android TV.

The NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet K1 is an Android tablet that doubles as a gaming machine when connected with the SHIELD controller and GeForce NOW game-streaming service. It costs $199 and features a Full HD 1080p, 8-inch display and dual front-facing speakers. The tablet is powered by the NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor that comes with a 192-core NVIDIA Kepler GPU and 2.2 GHz quad-core CPU.

News about the Android 7.0 Nougat update of the 2015 NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet K1 was revealed after a user commented on SHIELD's post about their Android TV. The user asked what to expect in the tablet's software, and NVIDIA replied that an operating system update will roll out "in a few weeks." That means Android 7.0 Nougat will likely be released on the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet K1 later this month or sometime in February.

There's no news whether the 2014 SHIELD Tablet would also get Android 7.0 Nougat or not. It is, however, unlikely given that the device is almost three years old now and NVIDIA may want to focus on the 2015 NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet K1 instead. The OG SHIELD Tablet will receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update, too, though that might come at a later date.

NVIDIA is yet to reveal the enhancements that the Android 7.0 Nougat update will bring to the SHIELD Tablet K1 aside from the software's standard improvements. The update provided notable improvements on the 2015 SHIELD TV, though, so it's safe to assume that the SHIELD Tablet K1 will get the same treatment.

Some of the additions that the 2015 SHIELD TV enjoys now thanks to Android 7.0 Nougat are Amazon Video for streaming movies and TV shows, NVIDIA Games Apps and Nest support, Phone Arena listed. Users can now watch live video from their Nest Cameras using the Nest app.

A new game became available on the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet K1 this month. That's Hello Games' "No Man's Sky," which costs $59.99, Android Authority reported. Buying "No Man's Sky" from the Shield Store comes with a Steam digital code to activate the game on the tablet.
