On the advent of the latest Apple upgrade to their MacBook and MacBook Pro, Samsung was close to Apple's heels and refreshed their own 13.3-inch and 15-inch Notebook 9 laptops with the latest Intel 7^th generation Kaby Lake processors this week.

The upgrade places the Samsung Notebook 9 ahead of its competitors to officially use the latest Kaby Lake chips. The refreshed laptops are expected to be unveiled at the CES 2017 where rivals are also expected to announce PCs that may or may not carry the new chips, according to PC World.

The refreshed Samsung Notebook 9's are expected to be faster than its predecessors are and is expected to provide better graphics. Experts have stated that using Kaby Lake increases overall performance improvement from 5 percent to 15 percent over systems that use Skylake chips.

Accordingly, the new chip will enable integrated graphics to handle video resolution beyond 1080p. The Samsung Notebook 9 excelled in both brightness and contrast ratio but falls short in color accuracy and gamut.

This would benefit the Samsung Notebook 9 regardless of screen size since both sports full HD displays. The only drawback is that battery life of the notebooks is rated at seven hours, which is not as high as other laptops in its class.

According to DigitalTrends, the Samsung Notebook 9 now has a fingerprint sensor. Additionally, Windows 10 support various biometric authentication tools, which would mean login process for users using the device, would be sped up.

Furthermore, an additional update for the Samsung Notebook 9 is a backlit keyboard, and the laptop sports the usual ports that include two 3.0 ports and a single USB-C port, HDMI, and a microSD slot. Notably, the 15-inch model also has one USB 2.0 port.

Samsung did not provide additional details or specifics regarding the new chips in the refreshed Samsung Notebook 9. However, it is expected that Intel will provide more details about the Kaby Lake chips once the units are unveiled at the CES 2017 in January.
