We have investigated the rumors and recent reports on Surface Book 2 and Surface Pro 5. Here are three reasons why both devices won't arrive in 2017.

Surface Book 2, Surface Pro 5 release date pushed back due to Surface Book i7

One of the highlights in Microsoft October event was the introduction of Surface Book i7. It is a powerful hybrid device with Nvidia GeForce GTX 965 M on board and 16 hours battery life. the 13.5-inch PixelSense display packs impressive resolution of 3,000 x 2,000 pixels.

Its screen is optimized to be compatible with the Surface Pen. It is much of a pro-grade 2-in-1 device that comes with quite a hefty price of $2,399, CNET has learned.

Before Microsoft held the October event, it has been reported that there's no Surface Book 2, but instead, Microsoft was revealing the Surface Book alternative. This could mean that the Surface Book i7 is this year's best hybrid device, but it is not the said Surface Book 2 that everyone is waiting for.  

Surface Book 2, Surface Pro 5 release date pushed back due to Intel Kaby Lake processor

Intel is expected to unveil the newest core Kaby Lake at the CES 2017 event, Forbes reported. The architecture is said to bring more improvements on a device. Starting from battery-efficient system to a fast performance desktop-class device, the Skylake successor is a much-awaited processor that will likely be shipped together with the 4K display Surface Pro 5 and Surface Book 2.

Surface Book 2, Surface Pro 5 release date pushed back due to Windows 10 update, the Redstone 2

According to numerous reports, the latest Windows 10 update, Redstone 2, will be rolled out to the newest Microsoft Surface devices. The smart update will enable users to control devices and make them more connected to each other.

Redstone 2's roll out is speculated to happen in March 2017. This means that there will be no Surface Book 2 or Surface Pro 5 in the upcoming month until Microsoft kicks off Redstone 2.

The reports and rumors indicate a 2018 release date is possible for both Surface devices.
