Science, technology, engineering and mathematics - these are top fields in the world today. And to encourage young girls to join these fields, Smart Girls Rock happened.

Smart Girls Rock is an event that promotes STEM careers. The program highlights STEM careers to young high school girls. These girls were given the chance to learn about STEM from actual women who work in STEM fields.

During the event, 46 women with careers in STEM shared their stories, experiences and advice to students. And during the event, there were one hundred high school girls ready to listen. In partnership with the Miller Electric company in Grand Chute and the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce, they told these young women what courses they took in college. This helps in pointing them to the right direction. They are telling the girls what it is really like to working in a field that is mostly dominated by men, cites Post Crescent. Their biggest advice for high school girls? They told them that they should not be intimidated.

Smart Girls Rock is about showing what these girls can do. Veronika Pashkina, who is a mechanical engineer, says that girls should try to be better than boys. For Pashkina, it is vital to show everyone that girls can do anything that the boys can do. Her advice is to prove with actions.

Smart Girls Rock does not only focus on exposing these students to the different career paths they can take when it comes to STEM. It also focuses on the women who work in the STEM fields. The girls were given the opportunity to meet with STEM mentors and activities were placed as well. These activities include controlling and programming robotics, welding, handling 3D printing, and even fingerprinting with local police.

The program hopes to get these girls and many more engaged in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
