"Pacific Rim 2" confirmed in the works. The new actor will join the upcoming movie is from "iZombie."

"Legends of Tomorrow" and "iZombie" actor, Levi Meaden will be joining the cast of "Pacific Rim: Maelstrom, as reported by Variety. Meaden will be portraying the role of a character named Ilya, who is described to be "an irrelevant and offbeat cadet."

Meaden will also be joined by Australian actress Cailee Spaeny, who has been known for her work in the short film "Counting to 1000," is cast for the female lead role. Chinese actress Jing Tian, who is known for films such as "The Warring States" and "Police Story 2013," as well as upcoming films such as "The Great Wall" and "Kong: Skull Island is also brought in the project, and will be playing the role of a new cadet.

Actor Scott Eastwood will also be playing the role of lead male actor, alongside Boyega.

With "Pacific Rim" being a financial success, fans of the film are patiently awaiting updates regarding its upcoming sequel.
It has been established a few months ago that "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and "Attack the Block" actor, John Boyega will be brought in for the lead role of being the son of Stacker Pentecost, who was portrayed by actor Idris Elba in the first "Pacific Rim."

A year ago Guillermo del Toro confirmed that a sequel for 2013 "Pacific Rim" will start pre-production, and will have the working title, "Pacific Rim: Maelstrom." The film will be directed by Steven S. DeKnight who is known to have helmed the TV Series, "Spartacus."

Back in July 2013, Warner Bros. surprised the world with their giant robots vs. giant monsters/"kaiju" film, "Pacific Rim." Helmed by "Hellboy" and the master of the creatures film genre, Guillermo del Toro, "Pacific Rim" has been applauded by both the critics and moviegoers, while also doing well at the box office. It comes at no surprise that a sequel is in the works.

But the moviegoers' reaction to the cast of the first film (apart from Elba) could be the catalyst for them not returning for "Maelstrom." But Yahoo Movies reports that Charlie Hunnam's absence in the second film would be due to scheduling issues, and he did not give out any details on how the existence of his character will be acknowledged in "Maelstrom."
