The University of Cincinnati has decided to launch a new academic press to shed light on the social issues and to further engage in the community of the institution. University President Santa Ono announced that it is high time for the school to initiate the University of Cincinnati Press powered by the library system to further the school's mission and vision.

University of Cincinnati Press to Herald Deeper Community Engagement

The University of Cincinnati Press will publish not only publish print and e-books. According to a press release, the academic press will also venture to digital media creations, creative pieces, web-based digital scholarship, databases, library archives and collections. Furthermore, the Press will revolve around global issues of social justice approached in a scholarly research method.

To further strengthen the University of Cincinnati's claim of being a major research university, the Press plans to engage authors and readers worldwide through their scholarships. This compounds the university's existing digital repositories for humanities, journals, programs and other course materials.

University of Cincinnati Press Searching for Director and Staff

Since the University of Cincinnati Press is still in the making, the search for a director has begun. The director will be in charge of the administrative and editorial sides of the Press and look for authors and other staff.

The announcement of the University of Cincinnati's intention to create the Press is followed by University President Ono's admission of his struggle with mental illness last week. During a fundraiser event with over 200 people in attendance, he recounted the times when he attempted suicide due to depression, the Washington Times reported. Along with scholarly endeavors of the Press, the University of Cincinnati has free mental health counseling sessions for students free of charge.
