Microsoft held a media event today in New York City, focusing on education. The company launched a new software and a new laptop line geared towards helping students when it comes to education, and at the same time compete with Apple's MacBook.

The new $999 laptop that Microsoft has just launched targets higher education students and Apple MacBook users, Bloomberg reported. It comes in four different colors including blue, gold, platinum and burgundy. The touch screen is 13.5-inches (34.3 centimeters) in size and has Intel processors. It also has a very long battery life which lasts for 1 hours and just a perfect portable device for college students.

The operating system is also the newly launched OS by Microsoft, Windows 10S, which was presented the same day the new laptop line debuted. According to 9to5Mac, works like macOS if the users can only install the software from Mac App Store. It is designed to have easy configurations to make it easy for students to use.

When it comes to battery, MacBook also features the same 14 hour battery life, and now a competitor has arrived. The new laptop, similar to Apple, boasts 16GB RAM and 512GB of SSD. The new OS the laptop is equipped with is said to be faster and that it offers better security features than the previous versions.

CEO Satya Nadella, during the press event said that technology is not the solution to the problems, but it is the facilitator for the answers. He talked about how his grandfather took advantage of the limited educational opportunities he was given so that they could have better life. The whole event was focused on education, emphasizing that the new software released by the company was designed with students and teachers in mind.
