Huawei P9 Plus Latest News & Update: Special Vibrate Mode May Be Gateway For Security Breaches

By

Most smartphones nowadays come with a special vibrator function. There are devices like the Huawei P9 Plus that takes it up a notch by adding some tweaks. While that should make it stand out, the lack of parameter checks has given malicious hackers an opening to carry out their dirty work.

Huawei has reportedly found a breach which would give attackers the opportunity to crash the said device. This was revealed through the exploits of the 360 Vulpecker team, XDA Developers reported. It turns out that the vibrator service has a “Denial of Service” vulnerability where a malicious app could eventually leave the device in a frozen state.

The good news is that Huawei has already done the necessary to patch things up via the B386 update. The patch may have already been released. If not, it is expected to become available soon. Had they not, Huawei P9 Plus owners would have ended up losing data or even create ransomware that would leave owners in that state until they pay up. As of this writing, no cases of such have been reported, Phone Arena reported.

Just the same, it would be best for Huawei P9 Plus owners to keep close watch of their devices. They can start by taking note of the apps that are installed. The vulnerability can be a real threat regardless of the root or bootloader status. To avoid crashes, folks who have yet to get the B386 update would be wise to audit their devices as soon as they can.

Despite a cool feature in the special vibration the Huawei P9 Plus offered, there had to be something to ruin it. Thankfully there are folks who go beyond that and look into it deeply. The breach is something to think about though Huawei has done the necessary steps to make sure it doesn’t become an inconvenience for Huawei P9 Plus owners.
