Language Of The Future: 9 Free Coding Courses Online


Coding is perhaps one of the most important skills that professionals should learn. This is the language of the future. Programming is already being used in the workplace and employees should keep up.

Some companies have already started to develop apps that incorporate fun and coding. Recently, GoldieBlox has launched a coding app for kids, most especially girls.

According to Inc., knowing a little about coding can put applicants and employees above the rest. The benefits of learning to code include learning how to easily navigate content management systems, optimize and test landing pages as well as being able to communicate better with programmers. The publication shared nine online platforms that offer free coding courses.

MIT Open Courseware

Massachusetts Institute of Technology offers coding courses such as: Introduction to Programming in Java, Introduction to Computer Science and Programming and Practical Programming in C.

Code Academy

This online platform is popular for being the first stop for beginners. Students can learn several languages including JavaScript, PHP, Python, jQuery, Ruby and HTML + CSS.

Khan Academy

Khan Academy is one of the pioneers of providing free online coding resources. Users can study about computer programming, computer science and even computer animation with the website's collaboration with Pixar.

HTML5 Rocks

It is a Google project that provides users with the latest updates, resource guides and slide decks about HTML5. This is recommended for advanced learners.


Coursera is perhaps the most popular online education platform. It not only provides free coding courses but also offers free classes from several universities and colleges.


This online platform offers a lot of video courses on various topics ranging from personal improvement to computer programming.


Udacity aims to give more students access to higher education. It has courses on Robotics, Digital Marketing and Artificial Intelligence, among others.

Google University Consortium

This site is no longer available for the public. There is still classes and videos on programming with Android, though.


edX is more or less similar to Coursera. It offers several massive open online courses (MOOCs) on programming.
