Surface Book 2 Update: Kaby Lake-Powered Device Reportedly Debuts Soon as Old Models Getting Cheaper

By

Surface Book is reportedly getting cheaper and this is great news that hints at a refresh slated to debut soon.

Surface Book 2 launch is imminent?

Surface Book is Microsoft's discreet flagship and a number of high-end variants have been getting discounts in the past few months. The first generation of Surface Book is now $2,999 according to Tech Radar. The significant drop from $3,199 is a good sign that a new one is coming soon.

Specs-wise, the Surface Book 2 will reportedly get similar hardware choices to Surface Pro 5. Meaning, it is likely to sport the latest CPU from AMD. PC Advisor wrote that there's been a new speculation that Microsoft's upcoming Surface device will be powered by AMD Ryzen.

As a reminder, the current generation of Surface Book sports Skylake processor but there isn't any official word that can confirm whether Microsoft is switching to AMD Ryzen or stick with Intel.

Thus, it is safe to assume that the Microsoft could choose one of the two chips, for the Surface Book series but with AMD pricing its Ryzen CPU at a much tempting point - it could end up being the one. However, the media outlet stated that it is a purely speculation and should be taken with a grain of salt.

Surface Book 2 and Surface Pro 5 release date

A few publications reported that Microsoft could unveil Surface Book 2 and Surface Pro 5 simultaneously. This is due to the fact that the fourth gen Surface Pro is getting price cuts, too.

Although the discount won't determine a new product launch but there's been a general assumption that once the old device price drops, it's a sign of a new one coming. Rumor has it that Surface Book 2 will debut sometime in October.
