iMac 2017 Update, Release Date: USB-C, Kaby Lake Destined for High-End Model; Expect Double Performance Increase

By

This year, the loyalists will likely see USB C port on the iMacs. It is highly plausible that Apple will equip its desktop with Thunderbolt. Albeit how powerful the current iMac Retina, the best desktop still needs to improve - which is why it needs an Intel Kaby Lake chip under the hood. This speculation arises after Intel announced the release of Kaby Lake chip back in January.

Judging from the pattern, the 21.5-inch iMac sports a high-end chipset, according to MacRumorsIn an interview, Tim Cook did not specifically mention about the iMacs upgrade lists but he explained that Apple wants everything to come together - software, hardware and service. Cook once said that Apple did not abandon its desktop variants and promised great features to come with the iMacs.

That being said, Apple could introduce the high-end iMac 2017 with Kaby Lake in tow, while the other affordable variants will get a few specs down, including the processor. With Kaby Lake machine, the faithful can expect major upgrades in iMac 2017 as Intel promised a double performance increase, specifically 25 percent for desktop, PC Advisor has noted.

Reputable media outlets have also learned that Kaby Lake is expected in MacBook 2017 upgrades coming this spring alongside iMacs. iMac becomes thinner in time but the price seems to never change.

However, Amazon is currently offering a discount for 21.5-inch iMac 4K Display. This deal reportedly cuts the price up to $112 from its original price.  It looks like Apple will offer fierce competition for Microsoft's Surface Studio.
