A 19-year-old student allegedly cut off his own penis and stabbed his mother while high on the party drug mephedrone, The Independent reported.

Emergency services found the teenager on Dec. 29 hanging from a bedroom window "with blood pouring from wounds to his groin" after his terrified mother called police, The Independent reported.

Both were rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Metro reported that surgeons are believed to have successfully sewn his penis back on at the University College of London. His mother is in stable condition at the Royal Sussex County hospital.

As of Monday they are both in stable condition.

The teen was back at home from university in Haywards Heath, West Sussex for Christmas break. He reportedly took the party drug before the assault.

A source close to the family told The Daily Mirror that the student is "normally a lovely lad and very bright. But unfortunately, he had started dabbling in drugs ... It looks like he took mephedrone and completely flipped out attacking his mum and then himself."

Detective Inspector David Springett told The Daily Mirror said that Sussex Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident but are probing an allegation of assault on the mom.

"Officers are at the scene collecting evidence and speaking to residents about what they might know," he said.

Mephedrone is a synthetic, amphetamine-like stimulant that causes users to feel euphoria but can also provoke paranoia and anxiety. The drug was made illegal in the UK in 2010, The Metro reported.
