A group of pro-Telangana students clashed with police on Tuesday on the Osmania University campus on Tuesday when they were prevented from marching toward the state Assembly, DNA India reported.

When an attempt by 20 students to march toward the Andhra Pradesh Assembly was foiled by police, protesters resorted to throwing stones at the security forces who retaliated by lobbing tear gas shells to disperse the group, P Ashok, the University's Inspector, told DNA India.

Earlier, the protesting students also raised slogans "CM down down" and forcibly removed the barricades on the university's campus, the Hindu reported.

One student sustained injuries to her left eye and a police official was also injured during the incident, Ashok told PTI.

Police arrested about 30 students near state assembly building.

The students, who also clashed with police on OU campus on Monday, were demanding that the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Bill or Telangana Bill "be taken up for discussion in the ongoing session of the Assembly," DNA Info reported.

They also expressed anger over the "divesting" of the Legislative Affairs portfolio held by state Civil Supplies Minister D Sridhar Babu.

The protesters wanted to barricade the Assembly as part of "Chalo Assembly" program in which many people assemble and march to the Assembly.

Twocirlces.net reported that a similar attempt was made by the students on campus last week.
