The youngest daughter of the late civil rights activist Martin Luther king Jr. will speak at Troy University in Alabama, Al.com reported.
University officials announced on Wednesday that Rev. Bernice A King will be the keynote speaker at the school's annual Leadership Conference Celebrating African-American History Month in February.
The theme for the 2014 event is "Leadership, Unity, and Empowerment: Celebrating the Civil Rights Legacy."
King will provide the conference's opening address which is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. on Feb.7 in the Trojan Center Theater on campus. The conference will continue on Feb. 8 with plenary sessions scheduled for the morning hours and culminating with a closing luncheon and awards ceremony.
Leadership Conference Celebrating African-American History Month was launched in 2002. Its purpose is to promote dialogue that "fosters multicultural collaboration and equip leaders with the tools to better serve their organizations and communities."
The conference is sponsored by Troy University and the City of Troy.
King began her speaking career at age 17 when she spoke before the United Nations in place of her mother. Since then, she has spoken at engagements around the world and has been featured on "Oprah," "BET Talk With Tavis Smiley" and the "Judge Hatchett show."
She also has been featured in numerous magazines, including People, Ebony, Essence, Ladies Home Journal, Gospel Today and Charisma, and was recently recognized by American Legacy Magazine as a "Woman of Strength and Courage," according to a press release from the university.
She is currently a minister at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, Ga.
The conference is $30 for adults and $15 for students.
