NBC has released a new trailer for its upcoming DC Comics comedy series, "Powerless." The workplace comedy show, executive produced by Ben Queen, stars Vanessa Hudgens as the confident and optimistic Emily Locke.

"Powerless" is set within the world of the DC Universe and showcases a member of the Wayne family, a subsidiary of the more popular Wayne Enterprises. Alan Tudyk stars as Van Wayne, a distant cousin of Bruce Wayne a.k.a. Batman.

Emily will get her dream job as director of research and development at Wayne Security in Charm City and although she and the company's workers have no powers, they will do their best to change the world. They will do that by creating mechanisms that aim to reduce collateral damage from heroes and villains' constant fights.

Unfortunately for Emily, her co-workers at Wayne Security aren't as competent and motivated as her. It is up to Emily to push her team to their limits and reach their maximum potential. Starring alongside Hudgens and Tudyk are Danny Pudi, Ron Funches and Christina Kirk. Watch the "Powerless" trailer below.

Despite its obvious connection to Batman, "Powerless" won't use the Caped Crusader as "a crutch," showrunner Justin Halpern said. "Powerless" was originally set in an insurance company but that idea was abandoned in favor of telling "classic workplace comedy stories but in a way that kind of activates the DC universe a little bit more," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Co-showrunner Patrick Schumacker said that "Powerless" is in Earth-P but it still has ties to Geoff Johns' DC Extended Universe ("Man of Steel" and "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice") and Greg Berlanti's CW Arrowverse ("Arrow," "Supergirl," "The Flash" and "Legends of Tomorrow") even though they exist in different universes.

Halpern said that "Powerless" will "poke fun at the 'Batman-Superman' films" in an episode. The show will not treat the movies as "things that have happened" within Earth-P, and the characters from there -- especially the Big 7 DC superheroes a.k.a. the Justice League -- will be mentioned "all the time." However, Schumacker is quick to say that those superheroes will not make appearances on "Powerless," and they will only be mentioned to benefit the show's storyline.

"Powerless" premieres on NBC on Thursday, Feb. 2 at 8:30/7:30c. The pilot episode is titled "Wayne or Lose." Are you excited for the show? Tell us below!
