Sacramento Kings is reportedly hesitant to extend the contract of Ben McLemore. If he does not get a contract by Oct. 31, McLemore would be a restricted free agent in the upcoming season.

Sacramento Kings Disappointed With Ben McLemore

Ben McLemore was one of the most promising rookie picks in 2013 when he was taken by the Sacramento Kings. However, his performance with the Kings has not been satisfactory to warrant an extension with the team, according to ESPN.

McLemore's current stat showed that he only stayed an average of 21 minutes on the court during the last season's 68 matches. His average rounded scores include eight points per game, two rebounds per game and one assist per game. He did improved by more than 36 percent in his three point shots.

Ben McLemore Better Off With Another Team?

In fairness to McLemore, playing with Kings has also been a trying experience for many of its players. The Sacramento team has been rocked with controversies over the years. Some NBA pundits believed that McLemore will probably perform better if he is playing with other than the Sacramento.

The Kings think so too and there have been rumors that McLemore will be traded soon. ESPN reported that the Milwaukee Bucks wanted to trade McLemore with Michael Carter-Williams. However, Sacramento rejected the proposed deal. Carter-William was later traded to the Chicago Bulls.

Ben McLemore - Trade Options

The Kings' new coaches however, still believed that McLemore still has the potential to make it good the 2016-2017 season. This is probably the reason why Sacramento is hesitant to trade him this early. McLemore's status as a restricted free agent will earn him a higher salary in the upcoming season.

Currently, McLemore is earning around $4 million. But if he becomes a restricted free agent on July 2017, the Kings would need to offer McLemore a minimum salary of around $5.38 million just to keep him in the team.
