Xperia XZ is a new flagship from Sony which offers premium set of specifications especially the camera department. How does it compare to the long-reigning of Samsung Galaxy S7?

Xperia XZ vs Galaxy S7: Design and specifications

Samsung is well-known for the graceful flagship designs and that includes the Galaxy S7 with rounded edges. Sony appears to stick with rectangular candybar phones that are sturdy but less elegant in design, such as the Xperia XZ.

The full glass Galaxy S7 is 9 grams lighter than Xperia XZ and it sports Super AMOLED display on its 5.1 inch screen. With pixel density as high as 577 ppi, the flagship offers impressive display quality, that's vivid and vibrant.

Moving to Xperia XZ - it is a 5.2 inch smartphone with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protecting the front panel. The dust and waterproof device has 424 ppi pixel density. Based on GSM Arena comparison list, both phones sport the same processor and Android Marshmallow OS.

Xperia XZ vs Galaxy S7: Camera

On paper, Xperia XZ optics department is ahead of Samsung Galaxy S7. Sony has upgraded its flagship's 23 MP camera with more features for such as laser autofocus, LED flash, 1/2.3" sensor size, and touch focus.

Galaxy S7 with its 12 MP of rear camera packs a fast autofocus, OIS for steady shot and LED flash. There are more video options in Samsung's handset and the features are richer as well with 1/2.5" sensor size, 1.4 µm pixel size, and simultaneous 4K video, plus 9MP image recording.

The front camera in Xperia XZ gets a whopping 13 MP whilst Samsung equips Galaxy S7 with 5 MP shooter.

However, PhoneArena compares both phones in the video below and learns that, the Xperia XZ performs better in camera department. It offers more stable when shooting a video. It is surprising since the premium device seems to have better video result even though it does not feature any OIS. One thing to note that the side-by-side comparison does show the difference, but there is no significant gap between both since the two handsets perform considerably fast.  

However, when it comes to accuracy, the S7 video result has better color production that looks closer as in reality whilst the color in Xperia XZ is a bit saturated.
