New York Knicks’ Carmelo Anthony Lead Charge for Social Change, In The Wake of the Tragic Shooting In Dallas

Carmelo Anthony opened up his feelings of pity and sorrow of the tragic shooting in Dallas that left five police officers dead. Carmelo took to social media to request athletes to demand change without resorting to violence.

New York Knicks forward Anthony wrote on Instagram, shooting 11 cops and killing 5 of them is an event causing great suffering. Carmelo called his fellow athletes that they need to step up and take charge. Carmelo suggested them to go to the government officials to demand change.

Carmelo pointed out that waiting and being afraid of tackling and addressing political issues are long gone, based on the report of ESPN.

The image of the Instagram post by Anthony featured some of the most prominent athletes of the Civil Rights Movement, which includes Muhammad Ali, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Jim Brown, Daily Knicks reported.

Cleveland Cavaliers power forward LeBron James, made it known that Carmelo's statement on Instagram was exactly right, and the 3 time NBA Finals MVP Lebron also hit on his Twitter account and stated that the shooting incident in Dallas hurt a lot of individuals. Lebron urged people to stop the violence.

This isn't the first time Anthony has taken a stance against racism and police brutality, the All-NBA Team member has marched in Baltimore in response to the death of the 25-year-old African-American Freddie Gray, according to USA Today.

However, two of the recent shooting incidents happened separately, involving two African-American men who were shot by police. Then on Thursday night, five law enforcers were killed and seven others were wounded in Dallas. Among the suspects was a man who allegedly said he was going to shoot a white police officers, NY Times reported.

In addition, Texas Rangers outfielder Nomar Mazara also reacted to the Dallas shooting incident. Mazara posted on Instagram a photo of himself along with teammate Joey Gallo and Dallas Police Department officer Patrick Zamarripa. Zamarripa was identified as one of the officers who was killed in the incident.
