After the release of the PlayStation 4, two more PS4 models were released with upgrades more superior to the predecessor. These new models were the PlayStation 4 Slim, and the PlayStation 4 Pro, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Here are the different specifications for each model, and which is the better console to purchase.

Design

The first PS4 was a bit larger and had sharp corners compared to the PS4 Slim version, which was slimmer and had rounded corners. According to the official website of PlayStation, the latest one was also lighter than the first, while the PS4 Pro is significantly larger than the previous two versions, and also heavier. In this category, the slim version was easily the best choice for purchase due to its light weight and rounder edges.

Connectivity

In terms of connectivity for the PS4 consoles, the first PS4 had two USB 3.0 slots, one Gigabit Ethernet, one PS Camera slot, an Optical Audio output, and the HDMI 1.4 slot. The PS4 slim also has the same connections except that the USB slots are the 3.1 versions and it has not Optical Audio output slot.

The PS4 Pro has one more USB port, an Optical Audio output, and an HDMI 2.0 for higher resolutions. The Pro is the better console in this category due to its support for 4K resolution and more USB ports.

Performance

While the first PS4 version made a lasting impression with its high-end performance, the next two versions made some improvements on it to have better performance. The PS4 Slim still has the same processing power with the first version, but its cooling system is way better due to its new design. The PS4 Pro almost has double processing power with 2.1GHz 8-core AMD Jaguar, and 4.2TFLOP AMD Radeon for the ultimate gaming experience.

The big boost for the PS4 Pro was due to its support for 4K gaming and media streaming. Another bonus for all versions is the new support for High Dynamic Range or HDR through a new firmware update. The PS4 Pro is also the better choice for this category, but it should not be forgotten that the PS4 Slim has an advantage of a better cooling system.

Storage

The first PS4 console system had 500GB and 1TB HDD versions to satisfy those who want bigger storage spaces and a cheaper version. The PS4 Slim also has the two versions with the same reasons, but the PS4 Pro only has the 1TB version with a slightly higher price. All versions could be upgraded by the user, which made it more versatile, and this also ties all three versions in this category.

Better choice

The PS4 Pro is the better option in terms of overall specifications like connectivity and performance, but the PS4 Slim has its charms too. The slim version has light weight, a new design, a better cooling system, and almost has the same specs with the original version with some slight improvements.

Accessories

According to another post on the official website of PlayStation, the PS4 console has several accessories for additional features and convenience. These accessories are the Platinum Wireless Headset for intense and personal audio immersion, the DualShock 4 USB Wireless Adaptor for wireless connection for the PC or Mac, the Universal Media Remote for the PS4, the TAC Pro for PS4, the PlayStation Camera, and the PlayStation Virtual Reality headset.
