Poor broadband connection is detrimental to the education of some children, according to a new report. This study conducted by insurance firm NFU Mutual found that parents from rural areas frequently needed to make phone calls because of slow internet connections.

Brian Wilson, director at Rural England said that students who are coming from rural communities get their education compromised compared to their peers in the urban area because they have poor access to online learning resources and deliver research based projects, Telegraph reported.

A report titled State of Rural Services 2016 by the campaign group states that rural communities are at a disadvantage because of poor transport links to vital services. Wilson also added that the lack of a fast internet connection is an issue in many rural areas and it makes it harder for students to do homework because schools are already using a lot of online materials, according to Yahoo News.

The report also added that internet connection is not just the only problem of people in these countryside areas, because they also have difficulty in getting to schools on time by means of public transport of walking.

Matt Warman, chairman of the All Party Parliamentary group on broadband said that children are not able to do big chunk of the curriculum because they can barely have a decent connection. And while some schools are connected to the internet better than the others, it does not seem fair as an education system is supposed to provide equal opportunities for all.

Warman added that the government should be able to come up or introduce certain provisions to improve broadband connections in schools, considering that a quarter of all properties in these rural areas are still not able to enjoy a decent broadband connection.
