Calvin College is known for its graduate programs. Now, because of the demand, the college is now expanding its graduate program to include a Master of Accounting next fall.

This is also a response to the shift in scope and complexity of the country's Certified Public Accountant exam. In the beginning of the fall of 2017 semester, students will be seeing a program headed by Marilyn Stansbury - the director of the Master of Accounting (MAcc) program.

According to Cheryl Brandsen, the provost of Calvin College, the addition of MAcc is aligned with the college's plan, as reported by Michigan Live. Brandsen explains that the college wants to implement new programs that are aligned with the school's mission.

Marilyn Stansbury is excited to reveal that the MAcc will contribute to the skill development of their students in the accounting world. The MAcc has a 31 credit standing and has three revised courses in the public accounting major plus seven new graduate level courses. The MAcc provides both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in 5 years. Compared to the previous program, the revisions made to the courses will increase the number of credit hours but it is necessary given the changes in the 2017 CPA exam.

Brandsen also emphasizes that Calvin College is already preparing their students for the 2017 CPA Exam. The school is confident that there will be a huge passing rate coming from Calvin College. The school already has a strong track record when it comes to the CPA exam. In the past 5 years alone, about 68 percent of Calvin College graduates passed on the first try.

Aside from MAcc, Calvin College is also offering a Master of Speech Pathology and Audiology program, and a Master of Education program. While the college is confident in its plans, Sandra Richtermeyer is also confident that there is sufficient market demand, as reported by Calvin College.
