It would seem that fans and avid gamers alike might experience a bit of nostalgia as it was recently suggested that the acclaimed Japanes multinational consumer electronics and software company, Nintendo, might have plans on reviving the classic video game "Eternal Darkness." Moreover, there have been rumors that hint towards the Nintendo Switch will be capable of playing GameCube titles on the virtual console, according to sources.

Recently, it was reported that Nintendo might still have plans with "Eternal Darkness," after the company's latest trademark filings with the United States Patent and Trademark Office website were revealed, iDigital Times has learned.

It was stated therein that Nintendo's USPTO filing for the trademark of "Eternal Darkness" was submitted on Dec. 20, which was listed under "Goods and Services" to include "downaloadable electronic game programs; downloadable electronic game software; electronic game programs; electronic game software; video game programs; video game software."

As such, the source went on to suggest that Nintendo might be developing a new "Eternal Darkness" game for its upcoming Nintendo Switch console. There was also that opinion that this might be a good move for the company since the next-gen console will be appealing to mature audiences, as well, unlike the perception of the Wii and Wii U being made for kids only.

Another rumor was that the original "Eternal darkenss" will be made playable to the Nintendo Switch. This would coincide with other speculations that the console will be able to play GameCube titles through the virtual console.

That being said, there have been rumors circulating around about the vast features that the Nintendo Switch might offer to fans, which would include the capability to play GameCube titles, like "Super Mario Sunshine," "Metroid Prime," and "Eternal Darkness," Gadgets 360 noted.

It was stated further that GameCube support has already been tested and working, and that three Nintendo games are already being prepared to be released for the upcoming Switch console. It was hinted further that the Wii, Wii U and 3DS have already been sporting the capability to download games on earlier hardwares; the Switch will most likely have the same feature.
