It was revealed that the story of the University of Michigan student who said that a man threatened to torch her for wearing a hijab was made-up. Police were unable to find witnesses or other evidence to support the student's claim that the event actually took place.

Last month, it was reported that a man has threatened to torch a University of Michigan student for wearing a hijab. She was forced to remove her head covering and reported the incident to the Ann Arbor Police Department.

Apparently, the man told her that, if she would not remove her hijab, he would set her on fire using a lighter. The University of Michigan Division of Public Safety and Security released a crime alert describing the incident as an intimidation crime. It was said to have happened on East William Street near State Street.

The suspect was described as a white male, aged between 20 and 30 years old. He was believed to be intoxicated, with slurred speech.

However, the Detroit Free Press reported that Ann Arbor police discovered "numerous inconsistencies" in the student's claim. The case was classified as ethnic intimidation.

The police department said that investigators interviewed witnesses and reviewed several surveillance videos of the area during the time of the alleged incident. However, there were inconsistencies in the statement of the UM student.

With this, investigators were able to determine that the incident did not occur. The student's identity was not revealed by the police. A completed investigation will be submitted to the Washtenaw County Prosecutor's Office. It will be reviewed further.

According to NY Daily News, Yasmin Seweid, a student from Baruch College, claimed that three drunken white men threw anti-Islam slurs at her and yelled "Donald Trump!" on the subway. She also claimed that the men tried to grab her hijab.

After investigating the report, though, it was found that the student made the story up so that she won't be punished for drinking with her friends and breaking her curfew. The student has been charged for filing the false report.
