Apple rolls out firmware update for AirPort platform on Tuesday. It fixes some important issues including the disappearing base station.

Apple Firmware Update 7.7.8 Fixes 'Back to My Mac' Problem

The announced update reads 'This update addresses an issue that may prevent AirPort base stations from appearing in AirPort Utility when Back to My Mac is enabled'. The fix will ensure that the router runs smoothly again.

There has been a rumor circling through the web - stating that Apple may no longer update any firmware for the platform. With the latest firmware being rolled out, it simply indicates that Apple is still supporting the software, AppleInsider reported.

Apple Firmware Update 7.7.8 Patches Security Holes

In addition to the bug fixes, Apple's latest firmware update also patches a few security holes. However, there is nothing to take note on which security issues have been fixed.

How to Download Apple Firmware Update

There are two platforms that users can choose to download the firmware update:

1. Via AirPort Utility app on iOS device

2. Via AirPort Utility on Mac

Users have to open the app and the firmware update should appear. The download is OTA and the process may take approximately two minutes. WccFtech has learned that the update does not change the base station setting and once it is done, the router will work normally.

Apple's routers have gained positive reviews from consumers. J.D Power reports that AirPort receives the highest customer satisfactions ratings among other routers. Following Apple, Asus is at the second place followed by D-Link at third. MacRumors reported that the 10 metrics include reliability, Wi-Fi range, security capability, user interface and customer service.
