Fans of crime drama TV series will be pleased to know that a "True Detective" Season 3 might still be possible. Despite some lackluster results from the second season compared to the first, fans are still hopeful that HBO will still release a third season for the acclaimed series. Moreover, there have reports that suggest that Matthew McConaughey might reprise his role in the TV series, according to sources.

Most fans would agree that the second season of "True Detective" didn't surpass the success that the first one had. As such, these same fans were for sometime worried that HBO might not pull through with a "True Detective" Season 3 in the future. However, things might turn out well for these fans as HBO programming chief, Casey Bloys, said that the series is still being considered, Entertainment Weekly reported.

It was further stated therein that showrunner Nic Pizzolatto might be placed to a supervisory role for "True Detective" Season 3. However, with Pizzolatoo being moved to the sideline, there was no mention of who might be taking the lead on the franchise's writing.

When asked about a possible "True Detective" Season 3 in the works by reporters during the press tour at the Television Critics Association, Bloys said that the series is not over. He went on to say that he talked with Pizzolatto and revealed that both of them are still open to the idea of making a third season.

It was further mentioned by the programming chief that Pizzolatto will be working on a few other projects and that as workaround, they are open to have someone else write the script for a possible "True Detective" Season 3.

In other news, it was suggested that Matthew McConaughey is also reconsidering reprising his role as Rustin Cohle for a possible "True Detective" Season 3 but only on the right circumstances, Vine Report noted.

The source went on to suggest that the actor would only return for "True Detective" Season 3 only in the right context where he would read the script and know right there and there that he would be able to play the part.
