Early this week, Google released Android 7.1.1 for select Nexus devices and the Pixel. Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X are the first nexus beneficiaries of the new update while immediately following are Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel C.

Android 7.1.1 Nougat will be free to download, and should now be available over-the-air (OTA). According to PCWorld, the 619.5MB update incorporates under-the-hood changes that are more stable as well as addressing bug fixes. The update also covers the monthly security patch for December. Just make sure you have at least 50 percent power in your device or simply plug it during the update to be on the safe side.

Should you update to Android 7.1.1 Nougat now?

What we can say is that if you do not want any of the new features mentioned below, then it would be prudent to stay with your current version. Just read the new features that Indian Express reported.

App shortcuts: A function similar to Apple's 3D Touch, however, the feature is only available (for now) for select Nexus devices that include the Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X and Nexus 6.

Smart storage: The feature automatically deletes old- backed-up photos and videos from the unit to clear space. A feature that was once available only to Google Pixel.

New camera app: Select Nexus devices will have this feature for automatic exposure, viewfinder grid modes, smart burst, and AE/FE locking.

New emojis: Emojis are revamped with a new gender-sensitive collection.

Support tab: an option that was once exclusive to Pixel phones, now users can access Google support from the settings screen.

Moves Menu: gesture control options are now incorporated in Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

Image keyboard:  This new feature allows the user to choose and send stickers, emojis, GIFs, and images from the messaging app of your choice. The feature is also added to Google's Allo and Messenger App.
