Continuing to weave its magic around the world, "Doctor Stange" took the cudgels of being the number one spot in Marvel's movie franchise of origin stories surpassing that of the former leader "Iron Man."

The past few years has proven "Iron Man" as the undisputed leader at the box-office. The 2008 "Iron Man" debut took in a gross of $585 million and catapulted the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to great heights. This was followed closely by "Thor," raking in $449 million and "Captain America: The First Avenger," grossing $370 million.

"Doctor Strange" has now amassed a gross amount of $616 million at the box-office worldwide making it the most successful single-character movie of the MCU. While there are movies that made even more money with an assortment of more heroes, as in the case of "Guardians of the Galaxy," which earned $773 million at the tills. it would be interesting to note that a singular focus on a singular hero is no mean feat, considering "Doctor Strange" is one of the lesser-known characters in the Marvel Universe, according to CinemaBlend.

Furthermore, "Doctor Strange" now ranks among the year's top ten highest-grossing films in North America, internationally, and worldwide, according to IGN. Additionally, "Doctor Strange" is the ninth title of the MCU and that it is Disney's fifth film to surpass the $600 million mark within the year.

From all indications, the amount will still grow considering the movie is still to be released in Japan on January 27. It found success in China earning a recorded $109.6 million. For the record, "Doctor Strange" has also surpassed "The Incredible Hulk" ($263M) and "Ant-Man" ($520M).

"Doctor Strange" also fared well in Korea ($40.9M), the UK ($27.5M), Russia ($21.9M) and Brazil ($20.9M). Now we just have to wait how it fares in Japan, it already started strong at number one in Argentina with a $1M take ahead of their national holiday.
