Historically black colleges and universities are almost everywhere in the country. And the Black Entertainment Television Network is pursuing something that hopes to get the attention of high school juniors and seniors.

When choosing a college or a university, high school students mostly do their research based on the course they want to major in. Sometimes, personal factors are involved such as location and finance. Recently, reports indicate that students are more likely to get attracted to certain colleges and universities in social media.

Which is why the BET is partnering with Snapchat, a social media platform tool, to promote HBCUs to high school seniors, specifically, cites Essence.

The BET uses a student's perspective to expose educational opportunities to the rest of the viewers. Most viewers are young people. Using social media is a way to reach out to them with valuable information. In this manner, the BET and the HBCUs are able to send out the advantages of their schools through Snaps.

This is made possible with the Get Schooled organization. Get Schooled aims to boost the academic success of students everywhere. The project using Snapchat is the chance for high school students to get a preview of college life. According to a recent study, only 80 percent of high school students have ever set foot on a college or university campus.

According to the Get Schooled director Marie Groark, high school students, especially seniors, are now looking at getting an education after high school. This awareness is connected with the exposure to college experiences. Which is actually lacking when it comes to their preparation for higher education.

Using Snapchat, BET and Get Schooled are providing a perspective to students through a tour of HBCU colleges. This is a great way to use social media as a campaign for higher education. Groark hopes to close the gap by using social media and connecting students to valuable education.
