"Outlander" Season 3 is going to "like having a death in the family," according to star Sam Heughan. Rightly so, the final events in the second season weren't happy and dandy at all for the characters, especially for the leading man and lady who had to be separated by years once more.

When the show returns to the small screen, it will pick up several years after the events in the second season. Given that, Heughan's Jamie Fraser is expected to appear much older. When asked about his transition, Heughan confirmed that he went through an "aging process" in terms of prosthetics and that the character will definitely have a different look.

He also tells Vanity Fair that he hasn't been filming with co-star Caitriona Balfe, considering that her character, Claire, has returned to her present timeline, meaning there are no scenes of them together until their reunion.

"Honestly, it's like having a death in the family," Heughan says about not filming with Balfe. "Well, I don't know, I mean, it's just like a different show. It's hard to separate yourself from the character. Jamie's present, living in his world, and Claire's present and living in her world, and they both believe the other is dead. It's always hard when we're apart, actually, because she's a great person, great to come to work with, and a very good actress.

Aside from the heartbreaking separation of Claire and Jamie, there are also exciting things that are coming on the show. For one, viewers are finally going to be introduced to Jamie and Claire's daughter, Brianna.

As per E! News, the character will be portrayed by actress Sophie Skelton. The beautiful redhead is described as "strong-minded and intelligent beyond her years." Furthermore, the character is said to have "a distinctly scholastic mind-set....and a healthy dose of Fraser stubbornness."

The huge time jump between season 2 and season 3 makes Brianna a 20-year-old lady by the time viewers meet her. To more Fraser family members will appear in "Outlander" Season 3: Jamie's cousin Jared, to be played by Robert Cavanah.

"Outlander" Season 3 premieres in April 2017 on Starz.
