The long wait is over for "Top Gun" fans as Tom Cruise confirmed this week that the fil will have a sequel.

"Top Gun" was released on May 12, 1986, wherein this is one of Cruise's movies that gained commercial success as it garnered USD356.8 million in the box office. Although there will be "Top Gun 2" and Cruise will return to reprise his role, Nick "Goose" Bradshaw (Anthony Edwards) will not appear in the sequel.

Goose is the buddy of Cruise's character Maverick. For those who already watched this 80s movie, they understand why he will not come back as this character died in the first movie of "Top Gun." It can be remebered that when Goose and Maverick needed to eject from their aircraft, Goose was not able to clear the plane's canopy and died on impact.

Many think that Goose will return via flashback, Comic Book reported. However, this wasn't the case.

Meanwhile, Cruise appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on Tuesday, Oct. 18, wherein the 54-year-old actor admitted to Kimmel that he enjoys watching himself beating people up in the films, such as "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back" and "Top Gun," according to Just Jared.

During the show, the actor mentioned the possibility of reprising his iconic role as Maverick for the "Top Gun 2."

"It's just got to be right, that's all," Tom told Kimmel. "We just have to figure it out," he added.

"The Minority Report" actor also told the show host that he loves military characters. This could be the reason why he plays the role of a military in some of his movies.

Cruise's new movie "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back" will hit theaters on Friday, Oct. 21. Meanwhile, here are the sneak peek of "Jimmy Kimmel Live" with Tom Cruise.
