On Friday, the Pakistani social media star and model - Qandeel Baloch, was allegedly murdered by her brother. Authorities are calling the incident an honor killing in the city of Multan in Pakistan's Punjab province.

Muhammad Azeem (the social media star's father) reported his son Waseem Azeem to the law enforcers after Waseem allegedly killed the 26 year old model in protest of the kind of images she had posted online, according to CNN

After news of the killing surfaced, Baloch's brother is currently on the run, and the case of the social media star is being investigated by police. The father of the model also testified against another of his sons, who is a soldier. And reportedly, the father encouraged his sibling to carry out the killing, based on the report of Al Jazeera.

Even Baloch received multiple death threats and experienced a misogynist abuse, the model continued to post provocative photos and videos. In one of Baloch Facebook posts, the model tried to burst out to change the typical orthodox mindset of the Pakistani people, CBC reported.

The 25 year old Baloch was from the Punjabi town of Kot Addu and had risen to fame due to the increasingly political, videos that she had posted on Facebook.

Baloch, whose real name is Fouzia Azeem, became famous in 2014. Baloch also made headlines when she commits herself for a strip tease if the Pakistan national cricket team won an international match, according to NY Daily News.

However, the parents of the social media star made it known that after an argument, she was strangled to death by her brother. And Baloch's parents have been taken into protective care, according to the Tribune.

The death of Baloch sparked an outpouring of grief on social media. And her case reignited an argument regarding gender-based crimes in Pakistan.
