Wittenberg University had confirmed on Tuesday that one of its student-athletes, Miles Laboy, has died in a car accident. The victim was accompanied by three other passengers, whom of which sustained injuries.

Laboy, 18, was among three other football players when they met an accident along I-75 in Ohio on Monday afternoon. The three other injured student-athletes are Dorian Hunter, 20, from Ohio; Rashon Edwards, 19, from Cincinnatti; and Aikili Mosley, 24, from Los Angeles, NBC 4i reported.

The university announced on Tuesday that Laboy had succumbed to his injuries. Laboy was set to enter his sophomore year with Wittenberg University when the academic year starts.

The accident was reportedly a one-vehicle crash, which was caused by the driver who had fallen asleep. Trooper Mark Murray, who responded to the crash, revealed that Edwards was at the wheel. The student-athletes were on their way from Michigan to Wittenberg University.

Laboy may have flown out of the vehicle which was the result from the crash. The accident likely suggests that the football player was not wearing his seatbelt.

The victims were flown to the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, where Laboy eventually died of his injuries. The three other victims remained in the hospital to treat their injuries, but the university revealed that the three football players would be released soon, according to the Sidney Daily News.

The four student-athletes are players for the Tiger football team. The university expressed their regret of the tragic accident. The community and staff have reached out on friends and families since learning of the event.

Joe Fincham, the players' coach, along with Gary Williams, director of athletics and recreation at the university, were accompanied by other staff members to lend their hand to grieving students, and the victims' families, as well.

Laboy's family has yet to announce funeral arrangements for their deceased family member. The university expressed that the accident was a tragic loss to the football team, the university, and the community of Ohio, according to the University of Wittenberg website.
