"Father of the iPod," Tony Fadell who also invested the Nest smart thermostat has just beaten his former employer to launch an electric car called Smart-Kart intended for 5 to 9 years old kids.

The Arrow smart-kart will be sold at $600 which also includes GPS and WiFi to keep drivers safe. Meanwhile, parents using a mobile app can geophone the kart's driving area, put limit on the top speed or even halt the electric car if there is an emergency. Also included is a proximity sensor to automatically avoid accidents, Daily Mail reported.

According to Fadell, they wanted want to teach the next generation about electric cars. Their smart-kart also comes with a huge range of customizable choices, including a higher-capacity battery, different body styles and even a drift kit, Fortune reported.

Fadell said that the inspiration behind their electric car was his own kids. Meanwhile, the man behind Fadell and co-founder and CEO of Actev Motors, a Silicon Valley startup was Dave Bell. The Actev CEO said that he wanted to leverage his 35 years of technology experience to bring a whole new category of fun and safe vehicles to families and their homes.

The smart-kart electric car will potentially gear up kids who seek high-tech interactive experiences rather than simple battery-powered and boring ride-on cars. The Arrow Smart-Kart gets kids off the couch and outside, and behind the wheel of a real driving machine where they could also personalize their driving experience by downloading combined engine sounds from an online sound library, the Daily Mail added. The Arrow app also allows kids and parents monitor stats such as total driving time, total distance and maximum speed.
