Researchers at the University of Manchester's KNH Centre for Biomedical Egyptology in England, arrived at that conclusion in 2010 where ongoing research also supported, these findings hinted that the growing number of victims and death tolls in the present bears a huge gap compared to those cases recorded in the past.

The study has gone through the remains and text from ancient Egypt and Greece civilizations, which also included the first past findings of cancer in an Egyptian mummy.

The study, published in the journal Nature Reviews Cancer, noted that researchers found only one incident of cancer after investigating several hundreds of Egyptian mummies. Incidentally, the researchers found very few indications of the disease in period literature indicating that cancer cases were exceptionally unusual during the epoch.

Fast forward to the present, when the Industrial Revolution began, cancer rates fluctuated particularly among children which establish the notion that the rise in cases is not exclusively fixed to the length of life, the journal read.

Furthermore, there is nothing in the natural environment which causes cancer. The findings from the mummies and literature suggest that cancer is man-made. Furthermore, cancer may be caused down to pollution and changes to our diet and lifestyle, Prof. Rosalie David, of the Faculty of Life Sciences said.

Hence, it is implied that changing the lifestyle and diet could lead to avoidance of the killer disease. Thus, the important object about this study is that it gives a historical perspective to this disease. Very clear statements on the cancer rates in societies could be made because there exists a full overview, she continued.

The study has looked at millennia and holds masses of data to support these claims. Yet, though hundreds of mummies from across the world have been roughly examined, there are still only two publications that show microscopic proof of cancer. Radiological tests of mummies have also failed to show proof of cancer they came from the Cairo Museum.
