The question was asked last year when seemingly, the gaming industry has entered a 'Remaster era' where older games made for consoles past are being revamped for current generation consoles. The "Shenmue" series seems to be following this trend and intends to release works in 2017.

There are talks that Sega is contemplating on releasing and HD remaster of the two Shenmue games this year. The report stemmed from Atlus USA via Rice Digital seemingly confirming that Shenmue and Shenmue II, is currently undergoing development for an HD remaster.

Great news for "Shenmue" fans as the original games can only be played using the Dreamcast and the original Xbox. Having an HD remaster of Shenmue I and II would help propel the planned Shenmue III by allowing players catch up with the original's narrative.

However, the source could not provide exact details on what console platforms "Shenmue" HD Remasters would come to, or if they will ever come to console. Although with confidence, the source stated that it would make its way to PC via Steam, according to Digital Trends.

Meanwhile, earlier this year, "Shenmue III" broke crowdfunding records at Kickstarter. According to reports, pledges reached a record high of $2 million faster than any project in the service's history. As of the last count, the project now has over $6 million in its initial round of Kickstarter crowdfunding for the PC version, coming from over 73 thousand backers.

According to Gamespot, Kickstarter backers for "Shenmue III" PlayStation 4 version can switch their pledges to the PC edition or vice versa. Accordingly, this will be executed through backer surveys scheduled to be conducted during summer of 2017. Additionally, aside from platform preference, the surveys will also ask backers to provide shipping information for the delivery of physical rewards.

"Shenmue III" will pick up the game's story after a decade-long hiatus. The narrative will follow Ryo Hazuki as he travels from Hongkong to Japan, seeking his father's murderer. As the project is still being developed, no information is available as of this time when "Shenmue III" will be released.
