Motivate Our Minds Leads Celebrity Spelling Bee

By

A spelling bee is not just for kids. In this case, Motivate Our Minds chose to hold an event for adults. Can adults still remember how to spell the most difficult words in the dictionary? It is time to find out.

Motivate Our Minds is a long time local tutoring and enrichment program that aims to inspire students. They are going to hold the first ever "Celebrity Spelling Bee" this Thursday, October 20 at the Cornerstone Center for the Arts.

Monique Armstrong, the executive Director of Motivate Our Minds or MOMs for short, says that this is a different take on their usual fund raising dinner. "Hosting our first-ever celebrity spelling bee is a fun and entertaining departure," Armstrong tells The Star Press.

Everyone is invited to attend and cheer on the teams. The event is to support MOMs which is going to also celebrate 30 years of inspiring and educating children, students and families.

Who are competing in the program? Teams from the City of Muncie, led by Mayor Dennis Tyler is joining. President Scott McKee of the First Merchants Bank is also in on the game. The residents of the IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital are also willing to give it a shot. The Ball State Federal Credit Union with Brian Winchester (VP of Inforamtion Technology) is ready to get their spelling bee game on. As well as the Mutual Bank with Jamie Faulkner, the VP of Marketing.

But the grown ups are not the only ones who can spell. The students are also participating at MOMs. "The children are the centerpiece of everything that we do," Armstrong said. "In an attempt to increase their likelihood of success, each adult celebrity team will include a Motivate Our Minds student."

Will these kids bring the teams to the finish line? Watch out for the MOMs Celebrity Spelling Bee this Thursday.
