2016 Rio Olympics Results: US Women's Teams On A Roll

By

The US women's teams are on a roll at the 2016 Rio Olympics. The teams for the 4x100-m relay and polo competition took home the gold in their respective events.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that the US women's 4x100-m relay team won a gold medal. This comes after they protested the elimination in the semi-final when champion runner Allyson Felix dropped the baton.

According to USA Today, Felix said that she was bumped by a Brazilian runner right before she got to the zone. Replays confirmed the runner's claim and Brazil was disqualified. China appealed the reinstatement, since there is a possibility that they would be replaced in the finals, but their appeal was denied.

"I got bumped coming into the exchange zone," Felix stated. "It just completely threw me off balance. I tried to pull it together to get it to English. Maybe if I had one more step I could've, but I was falling as I was going to her."

The women's 4x100-m relay team were allowed to run again with a time trial. They beat the clock and was able to beat the Chinese team out of a place in the final.

In the final event, the US team won with a time of 40.82 seconds. Canada came second with 42.6 seconds while Nigeria took home the bronze medal with 42.39 seconds.

Meanwhile, the US women's water polo team also took home the gold medal for the second straight Olympics. CBS Sports reported that the team dominated Italy on Friday with a 12-5 victory.

The American goalkeepers were able to stop 11 shots by the Italian team, out of 16. Ashleigh Johnson stopped 9-of-13 and Sami Hill stopped 2-of-3 shots. Kiley Neushul, on offense, led the US women's water polo team with three goals on four shots. They are the first women's teams to win back-to-back gold medals.

"They are from out of this universe," Italian coach Fabio Conti said about the US women's water polo team.
