Aaron Hernandez Arrest Warrant Has Not Been Issued for New England Patriots Tight End
ByMultiple reports that police are ready to execute a warrant for the arrest of New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez on charges of obstruction of justice are not true, USA Today reported.
CBS Boston reported Friday morning that an arrest warrant had been issued and numerous news publications jumped on the report. However, a clerk in the Attleboro District Court told USA Today no warrant for arrest had been issued for Hernandez or anyone else involved in the case.
The Boston Globe also reported Friday that no warrant for any arrests had been issued.
"There are no arrest warrants issued," said the source who had been briefed on the investigation. "For anyone."
Police searched Hernandez' home a third straight day on a new search warrant after investigators confirmed the football players' home security system had been intentionally busted.
The investigation started Monday when the body of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd was found in a field with a gunshot wound in the back of his head less than a mile from Hernandez' home.
Unidentified sources told ABC News the police discovered Hernandez had destroyed both his home security system and his cell phone. Police are also inquiring as to why a cleaning service was hired to scrub the Patriots' star's home on Monday.
According to the Boston Globe, surveillance video shows Hernandez with Lloyd and two other people on Fayston Street in Boston just hours before Lloyd was killed.
Law enforcement officials told Fox Boston, Hernandez, Lloyd and two other men were at a bar in Boston the night of the homicide. All four allegedly left in the same car with Hernandez at the wheel. The source said this was confirmed by a text message sent from Lloyd to a friend.
The source said it is still unknown what happened in the car or where they went, but only three men returned to Hernandez' home at the end of the night.
If the reports of Hernandez destroying his security system and cell phone hold true, then he could very well be arrested for tampering and obstruction. That arrest has not happened yet, nor has the warrant been issued, according to multiple sources.
