NBA Finals 2013 Game 6, Heat vs. Spurs Result: Chris Bosh Saves Miami, Forces Game 7
ByWithout scoring a single basket, Chris Bosh was arguably the most vital player on the floor in the Miami Heat's thrilling NBA Finals game six win.
With an offensive rebound, a pass and a blocked shot, Bosh was instrumental in the Heat's late-game surge to force game 7.
With about ten seconds left in the game and the Heat trailing by three, LeBron James attempted and missed a three-pointer. Bosh fought off two San Antonio Spurs players for the rebound and dished the ball to Ray Allen in the corner. Allen tied the game with five seconds left to play.
In overtime, the Heat led by three with 1.9 seconds left to play, just enough time for the Spurs to get a three-point shot off on a well executed in-bound play. The play did not go as smoothly as planned, but Danny Green, who broke Allen's record from most three-pointers in a single NBA Finals round, seemed like he had a good look from the perimeter. Bosh read the pass, hustled toward Green and blocked the shot as time expired.
"I knew they were going to run something for a three-point shooter," Bosh said of his game-ending block. "I was looking at Tim Duncan's eyes the whole time. Tiago [Splitter] set a pretty good screen on Ray, and I just followed the flight of the ball. With 1.9 seconds, there's not much you can do. I saw the ball the whole time, and I was able to make a play."
Because of the blocked shot, there is no telling whether Green's shot would have gone in, but, with Allen's earlier shot as evidence, anything is possible in the NBA Finals.
"Chris made a heck of an effort to give us that second possession and found Ray," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra told reporters after the game. "Chris was tremendous down the stretch for us."
